Broken Internets

Hi folks, just a quick update- my internets at home has been somehow broken, and it doesn't work at all, and hasn't for about 3 days.  This is from a friend's house.  So, they tell me it'll be fixed by Monday.  I'll be back to the nearly-every-day fresh content then.  Thanks for the support. :-p

A quick update

Hey there folks, how's it going?  I have been pretty busy of late, and have obviously enough not given my blog much love.  Content is coming, eventually.  This week or the next week or the one after, it'll be there.  For sure I'll have a post for the Jawa- it's been a while since I posted

'Ard Boyz Fantasy Prelims Battle Report (with lots of pictures!)

So... my friend lent me a hydra the day of the tournament.  He'd painted it years ago, and had apparently lost the base.  This necessitated the creation of my own.  Like it?
Hey there folks, how's it going?  Last weekend I went to the local 'Ard Boyz Prelims for Fantasy.  As many of you already know, I don't really play Fantasy a whole lot, the more accurate word is likely 'dabble'.  That being said, I've had a little bit of success in the past, and I certainly don't mind spending the day playing a few fun (competitive) games for the chance to get free prize support!

Back from the Warp and With Cool Pictures!

A contributor post by C.J. Young

Hello Everyone,

Yes, I know! I have not posted anything in a long time, and my apologies to all my loyal readers for that! However, my life has been a bit crazy lately. Since my last post (editors note:  which was months ago :-p), I have taken a LSAT, applied to a Masters in Public Administration Program (MPA), applied to Law School, been working on a graduate paper for attempted publication, been accepted to the MPA and been accepted to University of Wyoming College of Law! So things have been a bit crazy and I hope to start getting more posts out soon now that I am back from the warp (by the warp I mean academia of course!). Enough about my personal life and on to my favorite subject that is miniature wargaming!

'Ard Boyz is today

...meh

Well folks, as you read this, I'm likely playing in the Fantasy 'Ard Boyz.  My own LGS is only likely to have like 6 or 7 gamers at most, so I figure I have an alright chance at getting into the next round, which actually has some great prize support.  I'm not sure how good the players in my area are, since none of them ever play at my LGS.  They're probably alright, and people who are willing to spend extra money will naturally have better lists than mine, by nature of buying (usually unnecessary) extra rare/special choices (i.e. 3 Steam Tanks, 6 chariots, etc.)

As it is,

Tournament Report: Adepticon Fantasy Championships (with pictures!)

Howdy there folks!  How's it going this fine day?  I've already put up my 40k Championships battle reports, you can read it here.  Following a day that had exhausted me mentally, I was ready for some ridiculous (and fun!) games of Fantasy.  I've found that magic can make the game quite annoying, but if you don't approach the game as anything but an opportunity to roll dice, it's actually really fun :)

New Awesomeness

Hey folks, I don't have a ton of time tonight, there's about a million and a half things on my plate right now.  That being said, lots of excellent things coming up here.  I'll list them after the jump break, I'm bad at figuring out when to put the damn thing, so I may as well put it now, lol.

Dark Eldar Project: Hellions

Well folks, I just took a crapton of terrible pictures of my first hellions.  They don't really catch the layers of highlights on the skin, or the eyes, or... well... they just aren't very cool since my camera isn't very cool.  But since I'm spending all my blogging time on my 4-game Adepticon Fantasy Championships batrep, these pictures are going to act as filler for content.  I'll put

Tournament Report: Adepticon 40k Championships (with pictures!)

Howdy there folks!  I recently went to Adepticon, and competed in a few different events.  One of them was the 40k Championships on Friday, and today I want to give you the battle reports for that day.  I brought my Wolfstar list (it'll be a little further down), and the goal of the day was to 'qualify' for day two.

In order to qualify, you had to win 4 games in a row in Friday, or have a draw and win 3.  In each game, there were three different objectives, and you had to have accomplished more objectives than your opponent.  For example, the three could be 1) Killpoints 2) kill your opponent's unit that you selected at the start of the game 3) control more of the 6 objectives on the table than your opponent.

Reaper Paints?

Well, today I broke down and bought some Reaper paints, in an attempt to find a way to paint good skin.  I got the golden skin triad, and the bone triad- we'll see which is more in character for the Dark Eldar.  The idea of the triad is cool, since they come with a base color, highlight color, and shading color.  Hopefully I can do something of use with it.

What has your personal experience been with Reaper?  Any at all?

Also, out of seemingly random nowhere, here's my fantasy championship results numbers, from the Adepticon website:

12th overall (out of 134)
74 total battle points (out of 100? not entirely sure)
29/32 sportsmanship- the way it worked was you had to explain why the person was 'your new best friend' for max sportsmanship, so I got 1 'max' and 3 'pretty damn good' rankings (apparently only 4 people got max sports, for what it matters, heh)
22/25 painting (cool... probably my best yet)
Total of 125- 1st overall got 138

Dark Eldar Project: Pictures thus far

Hey all!  While I work diligently on my battle reports for Adepticon (with pictures and everything), I figured I'd give you a quick update on my painting of the Deldar.  I already had a raider painted, and now I have a Ravager and a 5-man warrior squad.  So, let the pictures begin!

That's what it looked like before I got my hands on it, lol.
More pictures after the jump break!

Well I'm back from Adepticon

I'm back!  After a terrible 15-hour drive through the night, and then a nap at the in-law's place in Wyoming before the final icy trek to home in Colorado, I'm proud to say that I made it back in one piece!  Ironically, my car ran perfectly the entire 2300-total-miles trip (2002 Impala), and my wife's new Subaru (2007) had issues from driving less than 100 miles this weekend.  :-p

The mile markers entering/leaving Chicago drove me crazy.  What a blatant ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars- a mile marker every quarter mile for over 100 miles.  When it's dark it's sort of a surreal feeling too, since you're pretty much always in sight of a mile marker the entire drive.  Pretty good picture for my crappy phone camera :)
So, I didn't really post about the Fantasy Championships.  I did end up playing, and

Adepticon 40k Championships Results

Well, played for 12 hours today.  I'm extremely tired, so this is going to be brief.  But I want to know how many people read this, so I'm adding a jump break.  See you on the other end.

Well, I made it to Adepticon (and took some pictures?)

Quick writeup here before I go to bed (though this post will appear sometime around 9 AM, since that's when I can get the most hits :-p

This is before I left, while I was packing.  Three things I always bring with me to cons I'll be staying the night at: 1) My tournament shirt 2) Tums (for all the eating out and lack of sleep) 3) Earplugs because the guy I go with to all of these (CJ) snores extremely loud.  Seriously- it sounds like he's choking to death.  I always bring enough to share with other people who also want to stay with us :)
I drove for like 15 or so hours, running off of like 4 hours of sleep, so I'm a little tired heh (I wrote a thing up last night for Jawaball's blog about transports in assault-based armies- here's the link to it if you're interested).  Not like anyone here reads my stuff and doesn't read Jawa's stuff anyways, lol.

So, I'm here.  The hotel I'm staying at (Hyatt) isn't the same
